iconLORAC Eye Shadow/Liner Sparkle Pencil, Midnight SparkleI’m not a huge fan of LORAC; it’s not a cosmetics line designed for me, but rather for women who work in offices, serious women who wear suits and need to look serious and officious and want to look as if they’re not wearing makeup. That’s why I was surprised to find that my quest for a sparkly black liner ended at the LORAC counter with iconLORAC’s Midnight Sparkle Eye Shadow/Liner Pencil. Every now and then, I need something with a little pizzzaz, something that pops more than flat matte black liner, and had been looking for a frosted black. I didn’t find one, but found this instead. If you’ve read my previous posts, you know I’m no fan of glitter (it belongs only on teenagers, hookers, and transvestites), but LORAC doesn’t do the kind of garish glitter that gets in your eyes and abrades your corneas. This is much more granular and less garish, and just adds a hint of gilmmer instead of a whole huge pile of Halloween effect.

LORAC bills this as an eyeliner/eyeshadow, and while it is smudgeable, I don’t find it smudgeable enough to be used as an eyeshadow. I don’t wanna yank and pull my eyelid around as much as is required to use it as a shadow. Moreover, that’s just too much glitter for me. Some in my eyeliner is luxe; some in my shadow is garish.

This liner/shadow comes in three other colors, by the way: Blue Topaz, which is pretty over the top (blue’s a bit over-the-top as it is; add glitter, and eeek!); Pink Diamond, which is kind of mauve-y, and doesn’t seem appropriate near the eyes unless you’re going for a bunny rabbit or an “I’ve got a hangover” look; and 24K Gold, which might be nice in small doses in the inside corner of the eye, but I’m picturing it in huge doses on Kimora Lee Simmons (she doesn’t do anything understated when it comes to gold) and not liking the effect. But Midnight Sparkle is just right, and I never thought I’d say that about a product with glitter in it! $16.00

  1. I am going to check this out, my daughter will love it because she is really feeling the glitter make up right now… she’s 3 so she gets to wear it for dinner, lol.

  2. Danger! Danger, Delphine! I think if you start ‘em off at three with a $16 eyeliner, you’re gonna grow yourself a Kimora Lee Simmons … and that ain’t good! Give her a silver crayon and tell her it’s an eyeliner, and nip this thing in the bud now, while you still can! It’s not too late!
